Urban Proxima is a newsletter about cities, technology, and the future.
Cities are one of humanity’s greatest inventions. They’re responsible for generating the lion’s share of global wealth. They’re also home to 68% of the world’s population (a number that’s only going to get bigger going forward). How we build, maintain, and live together within urban spaces matters, and key to that is the technology we interact with everyday.
Technology pushes the boundaries of what’s possible: The elevator and wastewater treatment enabled the development of modern cities. Drones, spatial imaging, and other emerging technologies will shape cities in the future. This is what Urban Proxima will explore.
Every post will deep dive into some new area of urban life - they’ll be explanatory, but also speculative. We'll take stock of where we are, see where we’re going, and think through how it will impact urban life.
This project is a dialogue. The hope is that everyone learns something from each post, but questions, feedback, and suggestions are actively encouraged all the same. Regular posts will begin soon - until then, I’ll look forward to meeting folks in the comments.
